On the last day of nomination filing, Trinamool Congress (TMC) submitted papers for four candidates—former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, actress Koel Mallick, ex-West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar (close aide to CM Mamata Banerjee), and senior Supreme Court advocate Menaka Guruswamy—for the five vacant seats from West Bengal. With TMC's strong majority in the assembly, all four are virtually assured victory. BJP has criticized TMC for fielding "outsiders" like Menaka Guruswamy (not from Bengal), while BJP's Rahul Sinha also filed his nomination, likely securing the fifth seat in the March 16 polls.
