A 23-year-old second-year MBBS student from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped by four to five unidentified men on Friday evening outside a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal. The victim, a native of Balasore, Odisha, had stepped out for dinner with a male classmate when the incident occurred.

The police arrested three individuals within 36 hours of the incident. Two other suspects remain at large. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage and questioning several individuals, including the male classmate who accompanied the victim.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take exemplary action against the perpetrators. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also met with the victim to ensure justice is served.
