An investigation has begun following the death of farmer Trilochan Nayak from Junagadi village under Rajnagar in Kendrapara district. Trilochan reportedly died of a heart attack, but his family has alleged that harassment linked to paddy procurement irregularities led to his death.

On February 14, Trilochan had deposited 38 quintals and 90 kilograms of paddy at the Dangamal Society mandi. However, on February 25, the owner of Ramchandi Rice Mill issued a receipt stating that 52 quintals and 20 kilograms of paddy had been received from him. This discrepancy has raised serious questions: if the farmer had already deposited paddy at the mandi, how did the miller receive more quantity? And if 51–52 quintals were delivered to the mill, why was payment made only for 38 quintals 90 kilograms? Who accounted for the remaining 12 quintals?
