The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds (30-40 kmph), and possible rainfall across 19 districts in Odisha, with the strongest impact expected in the northern coastal and adjoining areas. Kalbaisakhi (Nor'wester) activity is forecasted to bring sudden heavy showers, thunder, and lightning, particularly tomorrow (March 7, 2026) in districts including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Puri. On March 8, an orange warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms in 4 districts (specifics include heightened risk of intense lightning and squalls). Residents are advised to stay indoors during storms, avoid open fields, secure loose objects, and take precautions against lightning strikes. The weather department warns of potential disruptions to daily life, travel, and agriculture due to the pre-monsoon-like conditions.
