The Odisha government has clarified the status of pan masala following confusion over a recent prohibition on tobacco-related products. According to an official communication from the Health and Family Welfare Department, pan masala that does not contain tobacco or nicotine is not covered under the ban imposed via the January notification. The letter — addressed to the Commissioners of CT & GST and the Finance Department — makes clear that only products containing tobacco and/or nicotine fall within the scope of the prohibition.
