The by-election for the Nuapada Assembly constituency in Odisha has commenced, following the sudden demise of former MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8, 2025. The Election Commission of India issued the official notification on October 13, initiating the electoral process. Candidates can file their nominations until October 20, with scrutiny scheduled for October 22 and the last date for withdrawal on October 24. Voting is set for November 11, 2025, with results to be declared on November 14.

In preparation for the election, the Odisha and Chhattisgarh police forces held a joint meeting to enhance border security and ensure a smooth electoral process. The meeting focused on sharing intelligence, conducting joint patrolling, and setting up checkpoints to monitor any suspicious activities along the inter-state border. Both states have committed to maintaining peace and ensuring free and fair elections.
