The Election Commission of India has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming by-election in the 71–Nuapada Assembly Constituency. As per the notification, the nomination process for candidates commences today, October 13, 2025. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, R.S. Gopalan, IAS, confirmed this development during an exclusive interview with OTV.

In the interview, CEO R.S. Gopalan emphasized the importance of adhering to the prescribed timelines and procedures for the nomination process. He urged all political parties and prospective candidates to ensure compliance with the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission to maintain the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.

The by-election to the Nuapada Assembly seat was necessitated following the untimely demise of the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Rajendra Dholakia, of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The Election Commission has taken all necessary steps to facilitate a smooth and fair election process, including the issuance of the gazette notification and the commencement of the nomination procedure.
