Berhampur Town Police cracked a major child begging syndicate operating in Mumbai-style: 9 minor children (mostly non-Odia speaking) were rescued from under the Gosani Nuagaon overbridge area, where agents kept them hidden and ferried them daily via auto to busy traffic posts and crowded spots for begging. The kids were forced to beg all day and returned at night. Police arrested 5 key agents/dalals who had been running the racket for the past 2 years. Following complaints, a special team under Berhampur Town SDPO monitored and raided the gang. Rescued children handed over to Child Welfare Committee; probe ongoing to trace origins, trafficking links, and full network.
