An Iranian naval vessel, IRIS Lavan (part of Iran's training and goodwill flotilla), sought and received emergency shelter at Cochin (Kochi) Port in Kerala, India, starting March 1, 2026, after developing a serious mechanical fault while en route or during operations linked to joint exercises or goodwill visits in the region. Iranian authorities requested permission from Indian counterparts for safe berthing to address the technical issue, which authorities deemed urgent enough to grant. This occurred amid the heightened Middle East tensions and the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, though the docking appears unrelated to direct combat involvement—rather a routine naval maintenance need.
