Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA) has formally completed the acquisition of Tata Steel Limited’s ferrochrome plant at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district, Odisha, marking a major strategic deal valued at ₹707.26 crore. The transaction — comprising a base consideration of ₹610 crore plus GST and working capital — was entirely funded through IMFA’s internal accruals, the company said in a statement. The plant, spread over 115 acres, currently has four furnaces with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes per annum (tpa), which will expand to 150,000 tpa once the partially built fifth furnace is operational. IMFA’s Managing Director Subhrakant Panda described the acquisition as a “transformative deal” that enhances production capacity and positions IMFA as India’s largest producer of ferrochrome with stronger operational synergies, setting the stage for future growth.
