Family members of Maoist leader Shukru in Kurub village under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri are anxiously waiting for his return even as security forces continue their search for him. Shukru, who joined the Maoist organisation more than three decades ago, is believed to be currently active with his group in Kandhamal.

The state police have appealed to Shukru to surrender and take advantage of the government’s rehabilitation policy. Authorities have advised him to leave the Maoist organisation and return to normal life.
