A confusion has arisen regarding the dates for celebrating Diwali in Odisha, with disagreements over the timing of Deepdan (lighting of lamps) and Payashradh (ancestor rites). According to five official calendars accepted by the Shri Mandir, both Deepdan and Payashradh are set to occur on the 20th of October. However, several other calendars mention these rituals falling on the 21st of October. This has created a dilemma for the people about when to perform the important rituals.
