On Magha Purnima (full moon day of the Hindu month of Magha), the sacred Gaja Uddharana Besha ritual was performed at Shree Jagannath Temple (Shrimandir) in Puri, Odisha, India. As per tradition, the deities — Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra — are adorned in the special elephant-rescue attire (Gaja Uddharana Besha) on this auspicious day, symbolising the ancient mythological tale of the Lord rescuing an elephant from a crocodile.
