Odisha’s self-styled “Sunny Leone”, Nisha Maharana, is once again at the centre of controversy. Following her performance at a Yatra stage in Chandanbhati, Balangir, the issue has triggered widespread reactions across the state. Despite earlier controversies in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, neither the organisers nor Nisha reportedly exercised restraint.

Taking suo motu cognisance, Balangir Police have registered a case and arrested two event organisers. Police teams have also reached the state capital in an attempt to trace and detain Nisha Maharana. Responding to the action, Nisha questioned why she alone was being targeted and demanded a complete ban on item dance performances if arrests were to be made.
