During her six-day official visit to Odisha, President Murmu performed the ‘pinda daan’—a sacred Hindu ritual offering for the peace and liberation of ancestors—at Nabhi Gaya, a revered ancestral pilgrimage site within the Maa Biraja Temple complex in Jajpur district. Nabhi Gaya is considered as spiritually significant as Gaya in Bihar for such rites.

After completing the ritual, the President presented offerings to the attending priests and temple servitors (brahmanas) as per traditional custom. Priests at the site explained that such dakshina (ritual gifts) are part of the ceremony, symbolising respect for the support of the priests and the sacred duties they perform during the ancestral rites.
