Tension prevailed in Nuagaon Panchayat under Potangi block in Koraput district after local villagers strongly opposed a proposed Gram Sabha planned by NALCO. As per information, the meeting was scheduled to discuss the use of local stream water required for bauxite mining activities in the area.

Anticipating the meeting, heavy security arrangements were made with seven platoons of police, along with the presence of the Sub-Collector, Tahsildar and BDO. However, villagers—both men and women—had already blocked the Panchayat road by staging a protest at the Nuagaon ghat road. Carrying sticks, they placed tree logs on the road and refused entry to anyone.

Despite attempts by the administration to persuade the protesters, the situation remained unresolved, forcing the officials and police to return without conducting the Gram Sabha. The administration later declined to offer any official reaction on the incident.
