Tensions have escalated between Russia and the United States after the US Coast Guard seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker in international waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. The tanker was taken into custody following allegations that it attempted to bypass US sanctions linked to Venezuela, triggering a fresh face-off between the world’s two major superpowers.

According to reports, the US had been tracking the tanker for over a month. With permission from the United Kingdom, the operation was launched using UK airbase support. Viral social media videos show US forces descending onto the tanker via helicopter before it was officially seized by the Coast Guard.
