A poor potter from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, named Mohammad Sahid, has reportedly been wrongly caught up in a massive alleged GST fraud, receiving notices for GST claims worth crores despite having no land or significant business assets, according to the original Odia report. The potter says he only makes clay items for a living and was shocked by the tax demand.

Speaking about the shock he experienced, the potter said listeners would be stunned to hear his story, implying the dispute over incorrect GST liability has caused significant distress.

Such cases, where the GST system’s identity misuse or fake registrations affect ordinary people, reflect wider concerns seen in several parts of India where innocent individuals receive large tax notices due to fraudulent firms created using stolen Aadhaar or PAN details.
