Odisha’s top Maoist leader Nikhil, also known as Niranjan Raut, has surrendered before Rayagada Police along with his wife Indu alias Ankita and 14 other Maoist cadres. In a major boost to anti-Maoist operations, a total of 15 extremists laid down their arms. After surrendering, Nikhil released an audio message urging fellow Maoist cadres to give up violence, abandon weapons, and join the mainstream. The surrender is being seen as a significant step towards restoring peace in Maoist-affected regions of Odisha.
