Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated into open conflict after Pakistan launched airstrikes targeting Taliban positions in Kabul, Paktia and Kandahar. Following a declaration of open war by Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, repeated aerial attacks were carried out. Afghanistan has acknowledged the strikes, stating that eight soldiers were killed and several civilians injured, while claiming there was no major large-scale damage.
