In the forest-hill area of Banai region, a deepening cold wave is wreaking havoc on daily life. Residents say that mornings and evenings have turned bitterly cold as the sun disappears early behind the hills, forcing many families to rely on firewood and blankets to stay warm. Some are falling sick, and numerous households are compelled to take refuge in makeshift shelters to endure the harsh nights. Even animals and birds are suffering — locals report that the entire forest-hill ecosystem is grappling with the severe chill.

“Without blankets or fire, it’s nearly impossible to survive the night,” lamented a villager, pointing to growing distress in the community.

As cold intensifies in remote forest-hill settlements, the vulnerability of these forest-dependent communities becomes starkly visible — highlighting urgent need for relief and support.
