Rourkela city witnessed a major crackdown on illegal betting linked to the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. After a month-long surveillance across multiple areas under five police stations (Plantside, Uditnagar, Bondamunda, Raghunathpalli, etc.), Rourkela Police raided several locations and arrested 6 accused, including Rohit Bhagat, Pankaj Kumar Bhagat, Sonu Rao, Mukesh Sahu, Jitendra Agrawal, and Suresh Khemka. Bets were rampant citywide, with higher stakes on India matches compared to others. Police seized bundles of cash estimated at around ₹30 lakh (some reports cite ₹20+ lakh recovered so far), along with a luxury Mahindra Thar vehicle.
