କୋଣାର୍କ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟମନ୍ଦିର ଗର୍ଭଗୃହରୁ ବାଲି କାଢିବା ପାଇଁ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହେଲା ପ୍ରକ୍ରିୟା। ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟମନ୍ଦିର ପଶ୍ଚିମ ଦିଗ ପ୍ରଥମ ପିଢ଼ରେ ଗର୍ଭଗୃହରେ ଚାରି ଫୁଟରେ ଚାରି ଫୁଟର ଏକ ଟନେଲ ନିର୍ମାଣ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇଛି। ପୂର୍ବରୁ ମନ୍ଦିର କାନ୍ଥ ପଥରର ସ୍ଥିତି ଯାଞ୍ଚ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ଗତକାଲି ASI ପକ୍ଷରୁ ପୂଜାପାଠ ପରେ ଏକ ୧୭ ଇଞ୍ଚର କୋର୍ ଡ୍ରିଲ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟର ଶୁଭାରମ୍ଭ କରାଯାଇଛି। ମନ୍ଦିର ଗର୍ଭଗୃହର ସୁରକ୍ଷା ପାଇଁ ୧୯୦୩ରେ ଗର୍ଭଗୃହରେ ବାଲି ଓ ପଥର ଭର୍ତ୍ତି କରି ବନ୍ଦ କରିଦେଇଥିଲେ ଇଂରେଜ ସରକରା। ଏହା ମଧ୍ୟରେ ୧୨୨ ବର୍ଷ ବିତିଯାଇଛି।

The process to remove sand from the sanctum (Garbhagriha) of the Konark Sun Temple has officially begun. The initiative is being carried out on the western side of the temple’s first tier, where a 4 ft by 4 ft tunnel is being constructed inside the sanctum to facilitate sand removal.

Prior to starting the work, the condition of the temple’s stone walls was examined. On Tuesday, after ritual worship, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) commenced a 17-inch core drilling operation as part of the process.

For the protection of the sanctum, the British government had filled it with sand and stones in 1903 and sealed it. With the commencement of this operation, a process initiated after 122 years is now underway to carefully address the long-standing conservation measure.
