A pregnant woman from Rayagada district has died, and her family is alleging medical negligence after she died en route while being transferred from Laxmipur Doctor Khana (a health facility) to another medical centre. They say she was brought from home to a home clinic in Rayagada for delivery under Dr Navkishor Kundu, underwent a cesarean operation, and delivered a baby girl, but her condition worsened later in the day.

According to the family, she experienced complications around 4 PM, and Dr Kundu arranged an ambulance to take her to SLN Medical College & Hospital. En route near Laxmipur, her condition became critical so she was admitted to the Laxmipur CHC. The family says Dr Kundu later informed them that she had died after reaching Laxmipur, and they are questioning why she was not taken to a higher medical facility like Brahmapur or Vishakhapatnam if her condition was serious, or from the Rayagada home clinic directly to SLN, given her earlier surgery.

Her relatives arrived from Malkangiri after hearing the news. The family is accusing doctors of negligence in her treatment. Dr Navkishor Kundu has denied any neglect and stated there was no negligence in her care. The police have taken her body to the morgue; a case will be filed at the police station tomorrow.
