In Kalabuda Gram Panchayat, Kendrapara district, residents are facing a nightmare — swarms of insects have invaded their homes, eating up harvested paddy and food stores. As soon as the grain was stored, the pests struck, leaving households without food and living in fear.

“We had just stored our paddy — now it’s all eaten. Pests have crawled everywhere: kitchen, courtyard, house,” says one villager, reflecting the anguish and helplessness of families. The crisis has disrupted daily life and food security, forcing people to stay indoors to avoid further damage.

This home-level catastrophe follows a larger pest outbreak where the same insects destroyed groundnut and other crops across several blocks in Kendrapara.
