In a major anti-corruption action in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Odisha Vigilance Directorate unearthed an unprecedented cash haul of over ₹4 crore in unaccounted currency from the residence of Deputy Director of Mines, Debabrata Mohanty, after he was apprehended in a *bribe trap for ₹30,000 from a coal vendor, making this the highest single cash recovery in the department’s history; officials recovered thick bundles of money stashed in bags and almirahs inside his Patia flat and simultaneous searches at linked properties, including his office and parental home, are ongoing as part of a disproportionate assets probe under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Vigilance sources described the scene of money scattered throughout the house as extraordinary, noting this massive seizure highlights intensified efforts to crack down on corruption among public servants in the state.
