In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Odisha Vigilance Directorate recovered more than ₹4 crore in cash from the residence of Debabrata Mohanty, Deputy Director of Mines, Cuttack Circle, during a surprise raid following a bribe trap; the money was found hidden in piles and stacks across the house, prompting officials to call it a historic cash seizure in Odisha Vigilance history. Vigilance sources said the scene resembled a “mountain of money” while he casually ate cashews and raisins, highlighting the shocking scale of unaccounted wealth, and emphasizing the ongoing crackdown on corruption within state departments. The raid forms part of a disproportionate assets investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act, with further searches continuing at linked properties to trace other illicit assets.
