In Odisha, compensation for deaths caused by snakebites is currently ₹4 lakh under disaster relief norms. A move to raise it to ₹10 lakh has gained traction after intervention from higher judicial authority. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announced: “We wrote to the Centre for enhancement; now the path is open to increase compensation.”

This comes amid high snakebite mortality in rural Odisha, where vulnerable communities demand greater support and relief.
