Odisha Budget 2026-27: Mohan Government Relieves Worries of Poor Parents with Girl Child Birth – Launches Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana

In a major boost for girl child welfare and family support in economically weaker sections, the Odisha Budget 2026-27 presented by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on February 20, 2026, introduces the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana to ease financial concerns for poor parents welcoming a girl child. Under this new scheme, a savings instrument of ₹20,000 will be created in the name of every eligible girl born into economically disadvantaged families. This amount will grow and mature to ₹1,00,001 (or ₹1,01,000 in some reports) upon the girl's successful completion of graduation, providing a substantial corpus for higher education, self-employment, or sustainable development.
