The Gajapati Maharaja has appealed to safeguard the sanctity of Jagannath culture, stating that Lord Jagannath does not come out throughout the year. He reiterated that even the nine-day Rath Yatra on Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya is conducted strictly as per divine tradition and command. Without the Lord’s directive, such rituals cannot be carried out.

Speaking at the valedictory session of the three-day World Spiritual Conference in Puri, the Gajapati Maharaja questioned the practice of forcibly taking Lord Jagannath out in processions on the Grand Road throughout the year. He emphasised that such acts are not appropriate and called for immediate steps to stop them in order to preserve the age-old traditions and spiritual discipline associated with Mahaprabhu.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns over practices that, according to religious authorities, may dilute the core values and established customs of Jagannath culture.
