Heavy cold wave hits Kandhamal district — The hill-town of Phulbani and surrounding villages like Sarataguda are grappling with intense chill and the season’s first snowfall. Locals report mercury dropping steadily, with daytime cold lingering and evenings turning biting. According to residents, minimum temperatures recorded yesterday were as low as 5.2 °C in Phulbani, 5 °C in G. Udayagiri and 7 °C in Daringbadi.

“This bone-breaking cold is affecting our livelihood — even daytime feels freezing,” said villagers, emphasising how day-to-day life is getting disrupted.

This is the first major cold spell of the year in Kandhamal. With the first snowfall in Sarataguda village, residents are already feeling the harshness of winter — day by day the fall in temperature continues, affecting daily life across the district.
