Fake PUCC Centres Costly: Action Against 72, RTO Orders Arrest and ID Deactivation

Operating fake PUCC (Pollution Under Control Certificate) centres has proved costly, with authorities initiating action against 72 operators. The RTO has directed that the involved centres will no longer be able to log in using their official IDs. Criminal cases have been registered, and instructions have been issued to the Cyber Police to arrest the accused. Additional Transport Commissioner Dipti Ranjan Patra shared the details. Complaints regarding fake PUCC certificates were received from the Bharatpur police station area. While a proper pollution test usually takes 5 to 7 minutes per vehicle, some centres were issuing certificates within a minute. In several cases, pollution certificates were issued merely by viewing vehicle photographs, without conducting any test. Following an investigation, the RTO took strict action against the erring centres. In Odisha, around 90 lakh vehicles require pollution certificates, but so far only 44 lakh vehicles have been certified. There are about 800 PUCC centres operating in the state. The State Transport Authority has advised vehicle owners to remain cautious of cyber fraudsters.
