In a major cybercrime case, the Cuttack Cyber Police have arrested five people accused of defrauding a senior citizen of nearly ₹88 lakh through a sextortion racket. The gang initially befriended the retired official on Facebook, built trust, and later used a nude video call to threaten and coerce him into transferring large sums of money.

Authorities seized cash, gold jewellery and multiple bank instruments from the accused, and froze additional funds as part of the investigation. Police have warned that such scams are systematically targeting elderly citizens by exploiting their fear of reputational damage and intimidation.

Cybercrime teams continue to probe whether more victims are linked to this racket. Experts urge people, especially older adults, to be cautious of unsolicited social media contacts and to verify any calls or messages claiming sensitive or compromising material.
