A sharp political exchange erupted in Cuttack over the recent jaundice outbreak affecting over 20 families in wards 10 and 12, attributed to contaminated drinking water from leaking pipelines near drains. Barabati-Cuttack Congress MLA Sofia Firdous targeted Cuttack Mayor Subhash Singh, accusing him and the CMC of negligence, poor sanitation, repeated tender awards to a single agency for personal gain, and failing to curb the spread. She claimed the mayor is corrupt and questioned his inaction as the civic head. In a strong counter, Mayor Subhash Singh rejected the allegations, stating he, along with the CMC Commissioner and officials, personally visited affected areas and initiated steps like pipeline replacements. He questioned where Sofia was during the crisis, what duties she fulfilled as an MLA and member of the Nagar Unnayan (Urban Development) Standing Committee, and urged her to take responsibility instead of blaming others.
