ଗଞ୍ଜାମ ଖଲ୍ଲିକୋଟ ଅଞ୍ଚଳର ଛୋଟିଆ ଗାଁର ଏକ ନିମ୍ନ ମଧ୍ୟବିତ୍ତ ପରିବାରରେ ପୁଅ ହୋଇ ଜନ୍ମ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ସମୀରା ନାୟକ। ସେତେବେଳେ ବାପା, ମାଙ୍କ ନାମକରଣ ଅନୁଯାୟୀ ସମୀର ନାୟକ ନାଁରେ ବଢ଼ି ଆସୁଥିଲେ, ବଞ୍ଚି ଆସୁଥିଲେ। କିନ୍ତୁ ପିଲାଟିବେଳୁ ହିଁ ଶରୀର ଭିତରେ ଜଣେ ନାରୀ ସୁଲଭତାକୁ ସେ ଅନୁଭବ କରୁଥିଲେ। କାଳେ ବାପା, ମା’ଙ୍କ ମନରେ କଷ୍ଟ ହେବ, ସମାଜ କ’ଣ କହିବ ଭାବି ଭାବି ନିଜ ଭିତରେ ପୁରୁଷ ପଣିଆକୁ ଜାଗ୍ରତ କରି ରଖିବାକୁ ଶତ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିଥିଲେ ସତ, କିନ୍ତୁ ସମ୍ଭବ ହେଲା ନାହିଁ। ଆଉ ଏହାପରେ ଝିଅ ବନିଗଲେ।

Samira Nayak, from a low-middle-class family in Chotiya village of Khallikot area, Ganjam, was born as a boy. She was named Samir Nayak following her parents’ choice. However, since childhood, she felt a feminine identity within her body.
