In a major anti-encroachment drive, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) cleared unauthorised homes and commercial structures blocking drains and roads near the Capital Hospital area, demolishing illegal buildings that had narrowed access and obstructed traffic and drainage. The clearance, carried out by BMC enforcement squads using heavy machinery, also freed up adjacent roads and allowed ambulances and other vehicles to move more easily. Encroaching vehicles parked illegally were ordered to be shifted elsewhere as the civic body works to reclaim public space and improve infrastructure as part of its mandate to remove blockages on roads and drains.
