BJD Seeks Review of MLA Salary, Allowance and Pension Hike Bill Amid Public Opposition

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has urged the Chief Minister to reconsider the recently passed bill on the hike in salaries, allowances, and pensions of MLAs. Although the party supported the bill in the Odisha Assembly, it has now sought a review citing growing public resentment against the decision.

The bill was passed in the Assembly on the 9th of this month, but public opinion has largely turned against it. In view of the backlash, the Leader of Opposition had earlier written to the Chief Minister, declining to accept the increased salary.

Addressing a press conference today, BJD leaders stated that, following the party president’s direction, they have formally requested the Chief Minister to review the bill. Earlier, BJP MLAs had also urged the Chief Minister to reconsider the salary hike issue in light of public sentiment.
