Congress party faced a major defeat in the Nuapada by-election, with all its candidates failing to secure victory. Party president Bhakta Das had aimed to leverage the tribal vote to achieve success, but the plan did not yield results.

Bhakta Das admitted that even loyal supporters like Ghasiram could not retain their votes, attributing the defeat to the ruling party’s strength, strategy, and organizational skill. Political analysts also point out that a lack of manpower in Congress was a fundamental reason for the loss.

The by-election was seen as a crucial test for Bhakta Das and the state Congress. Analysts believe that without adequate human resources and ground-level coordination, the party struggled to compete against the ruling party’s well-oiled machinery.
