7 Deaths in a Year: Ama Bus Accidents Raise Safety Concerns in Odisha

ସହରୀ ପରିବହନର ଚେହେରା ବଦଳାଇବାକୁ ଆସିଥିଲା 'ଆମ ବସ୍' । ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଲାଇଫଲାଇନ୍ ପାଲଟିଥିବା ଏହି ବସ୍ ବାରମ୍ବାର ଦୁର୍ଘଟଣା ପାଇଁ ସୁନାମ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଅଧିକ ଦୁର୍ନାମ ମୁଣ୍ଡାଇଛି । ବର୍ଷକ ଭିତରେ ଆମ ବସ୍ ନେଇଛି ୭ ଜୀବନ । ବିଧାନସଭାରେ ଏହି ତଥ୍ୟ ଦେଇଛନ୍ତି ନଗର ଉନ୍ନୟନ ମନ୍ତ୍ରୀ କୃଷ୍ଣଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ମହାପାତ୍ର। ଭୁବନେଶ୍ବରରେ କେବଳ ୬ ଜଣ ପ୍ରାଣ ହରାଇଛନ୍ତି । ଗତକାଲି ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱରରେ ଆମ୍ ବସ୍ ଧକ୍କାରେ ଜଣେ ସାଇକେଲ୍ ଆରୋହୀ ଆହତ ହେବା ପରେ ପୁଣି ଉଦବେଗ ପ୍ରକାଶ ପାଇଛି । ଅଘଟଣ ରୋକିବାକୁ ଯାଞ୍ଚ କଡ଼ାକଡ଼ି ସହ ସ୍ପିଡ୍ ଲିମିଟ୍ ଫିକ୍ସ କରାଯାଇଥିବା ମନ୍ତ୍ରୀ କହିଥିଲେ ବି ପଥଚାରୀ ଓ ଯାତ୍ରୀଙ୍କ ସୁରକ୍ଷାକୁ ନେଇ ପ୍ରଶ୍ନବାଚୀ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଛି ।

Launched to transform urban transport, ‘Ama Bus’ is now under scrutiny after being linked to seven deaths within a year. The data was shared in the Odisha Legislative Assembly by Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.

Of the seven fatalities, six were reported in Bhubaneswar alone. Fresh concern surfaced after a cyclist was injured in the capital yesterday following a collision with an Ama Bus.

Though the Minister stated that speed limits have been fixed and stricter checks are in place to prevent accidents, questions continue to be raised over the safety of pedestrians and passengers.
