Dokra, a 4,000-year-old traditional metalcraft rooted in the Indus Valley era, continues to thrive in Odisha’s forested and tribal regions, especially in Kudia Khunta village of Mayurbhanj, where over 40 families preserve this heritage. Each handcrafted piece—depicting animals, tribal life, deities, dancers, and nature—carries deep cultural stories and emotional expression. Though Dokra art is admired and sold at high prices across India and abroad, the artisans themselves still struggle to receive fair payment for their hard work.
