Special Story: The Woman Who Still Cries for Her Lost Cow: A Heartfelt Tale from Subarnapur

ଭୋ… ଭୋ… ହୋଇ କାନ୍ଦୁଛି ବୁଢି ମାଉସୀ। ସେ ଖାଲି କାନ୍ଦୁ ନାହାନ୍ତି, କାନ୍ଦି କାନ୍ଦି କଲେକ୍ଟରଙ୍କୁ କାର୍ ଆଗରେ ବି ପଡିଯାଉଛନ୍ତି। ତାଙ୍କର ପ୍ରୀୟ ଗାଈକୁ ଫେରାଇ ଦେବାକୁ ସେ ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ମାଡାମଙ୍କୁ ନେହୁରା ହେଉଛନ୍ତି। ଏହା ହେଉଛି ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣପୁରର ଜଣେ ଅସହାୟ ବୃଦ୍ଧାଙ୍କ କାହାଣୀ।
This is the touching story of Taras Bag, an elderly homeless woman from Subarnapur, Odisha, who lost her beloved cow Chinu in 2022. When authorities took stray cattle to a government shelter (kanji house), Taras’s Chinu was among them — but the cow later died there. Heartbroken, Taras begged the district collector, even lying in front of her car, pleading to get Chinu back.
Three years later, Taras still mourns her loss. She now cares for 11 stray cats and three of Chinu’s calves, feeding them milk and meat from whatever little she earns by begging. As local authorities once again begin rounding up stray cattle, Taras fears losing her remaining animals — the only family she has left.
