In the early 20th century (under British rule and later), thousands of trained pigeons would soar from here, carrying letters and messages across hundreds of kilometers to remote areas—serving as a vital communication lifeline before modern postal systems. Today, this heritage site struggles for recognition, overgrown with weeds and vandalized, symbolizing forgotten colonial-era ingenuity. Local historians, activists, and residents are demanding its urgent restoration, preservation as a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and revival of pigeon-flying demonstrations to educate on historical postal methods. Despite repeated petitions to the state government and ASI, administrative action remains absent, raising concerns over cultural heritage loss.
