As the holy month of Kartika commenced, over 2,500 women, known as 'Habisyalis', gathered in Puri to observe the revered Rai Damodar Brata. This month-long ritual involves fasting and daily offerings to Lord Damodar, a form of Lord Krishna worshipped in Odisha. Devotees partake in a strict regimen, consuming only a single meal in the afternoon, known as 'Habisha', and engage in evening bhajans and discourses.

The Odisha government has made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the Habisyalis, including providing accommodations and organizing Mahaprasad (community meal) for the devotees. These measures ensure a smooth and spiritually enriching experience for the participants.

The Rai Damodar Brata is a significant cultural and religious observance in Odisha, reflecting the state's rich spiritual heritage and the devotion of its people.
