As the Middle East plunges into intense conflict following joint US-Israeli airstrikes (Operation Roaring Lion/Epic Fury) that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and key aides during a high-level meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an urgent late-night Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting in New Delhi on March 1, 2026. Returning from a regional tour around 9:30 PM IST, Modi convened top ministers including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to review the rapidly deteriorating West Asia situation.
