In a significant development, all five individuals accused in the gang-rape of a 23-year-old medical student from Odisha in Durgapur, West Bengal, have been arrested. The incident occurred on October 10, 2025, near a private medical college campus. The accused have been identified as Riazuddin Sheikh (31), Apu Barui (22), Firdaus Sk (23), Safiq Sk (28), and Sk Nasiruddin (24). The victim was allegedly assaulted between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM while walking with a male classmate, referred to as her "dost" (friend). The survivor's father contested Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claim that his daughter left the campus after midnight, stating the assault occurred earlier.
