A political showdown has intensified in Odisha over the fourth seat in the Rajya Sabha, with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) locked in a heated debate. Senior BJD leader Arun Sahu questioned how the BJP expects to win the seat without the required numbers, saying the move raises concerns about the message it sends for democracy.

Responding to the criticism, BJP leaders recalled past political precedents and targeted the BJD’s earlier decisions. BJP MLA Babu Singh said independent candidate Dilip Ray could receive votes since there is no party whip in the Rajya Sabha election.
