In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Nuapada Assembly by-election, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is poised to field senior leader Manoj Mishra as its candidate. Sources indicate that the party has internally finalized the decision, with only the formal announcement pending.
Manoj Mishra, currently serving as the General Secretary of the BJD, has a longstanding association with the party. He previously held the position of Nuapada District President and has twice served as the Chairman of the Komna Block. His extensive organizational experience and strong local connections are believed to have played a pivotal role in securing the party's confidence for this crucial by-election.The Congress party has already announced its candidate, Ghasi Ram Majhi, President of the Nuapada District Congress Committee.

The Nuapada by-poll was necessitated by the demise of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia. Following this, his son, Jay Dholakia, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leading to speculation that he might contest the by-election under the BJP's banner.
