A five-member technical team has reached the Haladiapadar overbridge in Berhampur, Odisha, to examine alleged structural defects following repeated accidents. The inspection comes after a tragic accident on the 31st that claimed five lives.

Teams from the Rural Development Department and Planning Procurement Investigation wing conducted an on-site assessment to determine what structural flaws exist and why accidents are occurring frequently. The team is examining whether there were changes made to the bridge’s design during construction, as previously alleged.

The issue has also sparked political attention. MP Pradeep Panigrahi, along with Digapahandi MLA Siddhant Mohapatra and Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena, had earlier raised questions in the Assembly regarding the bridge’s construction and safety standards.
