There has been major political churn within the Biju Janata Dal as the party clarified the reasons behind the suspension of Arabind Mahapatra. The BJD stated that it had been receiving internal intelligence reports for the past 22 months regarding his activities.

According to the party, Arabind Mahapatra allegedly betrayed the party’s trust soon after receiving the ticket and worked against official candidates. The BJD also accused him of attempting to defeat the party’s Lok Sabha candidate and running Patkura like a “father-son controlled system” [as alleged by the party].

The party further claimed that Arabind Mahapatra avoided using party symbols and the party president’s photograph at programmes, replaced party workers with his own supporters at the panchayat level, and acted under the influence of his father. Based on these allegations, the BJD said disciplinary action was taken.
