Two Indian research scholars pursuing PhD in Anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder won a major legal battle after a dispute over reheating Palak Paneer in a common microwave escalated into alleged mental harassment. The incident occurred in 2023, when objections were raised over the smell of the food and the scholars were barred from using the microwave.

According to the students, the issue later led to sustained harassment, removal from teaching assistant duties, and denial of their Master’s degree certificates. The matter reached the Boulder District Court, where the scholars argued discrimination and unfair treatment towards international students.
